Letter from Mayor to Firefighters, First Responders and Law Enforcement Personnel

Dear Firefighters, First Responders and Law Enforcement Personnel:

As Mayor of the City of Buffalo, I thank the thousands of firefighters, first responders and law enforcement personnel who came here on Friday, August 28th to pay respect to Lieutenant Charles W. “Chip” McCarthy, Firefighter Jonathan S. Croom, their families, friends and co-workers.

Your presence at the wakes and funerals for both of these fallen heroes underscored poignantly the unique and very special fraternity of your professions. That you chose to travel the distance you covered to stand with your colleagues is a testament to your personal integrity and professional commitment.

The courage and selfless dedication of Lieutenant McCarthy and Firefighter Croom, along with that of all of their co-workers in the Buffalo Fire Department, will never be forgotten by the grateful residents of Buffalo. Similarly, we will never forget your presence in our city last week and we will always be thankful for your generous support during a difficult and sad time in our city’s history.

I wish all of you good fortune, continued good health and above all safety as you perform your professional duties.

 Sincerely,

Byron W. Brown
Mayor
