“It is crucial that we hear further from the public to identify the next steps for Canal Side and the future of Buffalo’s waterfront,” said Mayor Brown. “For this reason, I am announcing two public meetings to gather essential input from as broad a spectrum of the public as possible.” Mayor Brown noted that in early September, the city successfully elicited 1,757 ideas from 856 people throughout the region through the Mayor’s online Canal Side Citizens Waterfront Forum. Those ideas helped to form the basis for the new direction announced Monday by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC). At the city’s urging, ECHDC is placing a renewed emphasis on public engagement for charting next steps for the downtown Buffalo waterfront. The City of Buffalo and ECHDC have made significant strides since 2009 to allow access to the waterfront and prepare the site for significant private investment. These steps include:
“Job creation and economic development are top priorities for Buffalo residents,” added Mayor Brown. “We need to hear all voices to continue the process of developing Canal Side and Buffalo’s future. I urge all citizens to attend.” The two public meetings will be held on the East Side and West Side of Buffalo: Wednesday, December 8th 5:30pm-7:30pm |
