Cutler US Conference of Mayors and Partner America present “Small Business Advocate Award” honoring work done by Brown Administration Mayor Byron W. Brown yesterday received the “Small Business Advocate Award” from the US Conference of Mayors and the Partner America program. “This award reflects my Administration’s dedication to strengthening small businesses throughout the City of Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown. “Nearly 80% of all new jobs are created by small businesses. They are critical components of our neighborhoods and provide important services for area residents. By assisting businesses in the private sector, we provide them with incentives to create and retain local jobs, ultimately increasing the wealth of Buffalo residents and strengthening the Buffalo economy.” Since 2006, the Brown Administration has utilized many city departments such as Economic Development, Permit and Inspection Services, the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning, the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation and the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation to help businesses in Buffalo grow and expand. “I thank the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Partner America for presenting me with this award, which I accept on behalf of the City of Buffalo’s small business owners and entrepreneurs who form the foundation of our city’s economy,” said Mayor Brown. Efforts made by Mayor Brown and the City of Buffalo were recognized by George Cloutier, Chairman of Partner America, who presented the Mayor with his award and served as guest speaker for the evening’s Small Business Appreciation Dinner. The event was held at Harry’s Harbour Place, and attracted representatives from approximately 100 small, locally-owned businesses.
