Cutler National Effort Promotes Local Cleanup, Beautification, Community Improvement Efforts Mayor Brown today announced the City of Buffalo’s participation in the 2009 Great American Cleanup. This will mark Buffalo’s 18th year of participation in the annual event, which brings together millions of Americans in local efforts to cleanup, beautify and improve their communities. Led by Keep Western New York Beautiful, thousands of volunteers will start working the first weekend in May to improve both private and public properties throughout Western New York. This year, Keep Western New York is focusing on beautifying local parks and playgrounds in Buffalo and Erie County. “Extending the Great American Cleanup in our region beyond just one day is a great way to not only improve the look of our neighborhoods, but to increase awareness of the important work that our residents and community organizations do for the betterment of our city,” said Mayor Byron W. Brown. “I have always admired the great effort of these residents and volunteers; I applaud everyone who has come together for this effort, from the leaders of Keep Western New York Beautiful to the thousands of volunteers who have helped make this event a success.” Since 1991, the city has participated in cleanup events that benefit the City of Buffalo and Western New York. Each year, more residents participate in efforts to clean our streets, vacant lots, school playgrounds, business districts, parks and waterways. Volunteers build gardens, remove graffiti, cleanup litter and promote recycling. |
