Mayor Byron W. Brown presented an official Key to the City of Buffalo to Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams on Saturday, March 15, 2008 immediately following the annual Old First Ward St. Patrick’s Day Parade at the Valley Community Center.

Mayor Brown joined Gerry Adams and Congressman Brian Higgins for the traditional annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade that is coordinated by the Valley Community Association and winds itself through the historic residential neighborhoods of the Valley and the Old First Ward.

“Gerry Adams is a true Irish hero who has committed his life, often under very dangerous circumstances, to achieve peace and equality in Northern Ireland,” said Mayor Brown. “I am honored to present to him the Key to the City of Buffalo, which symbolizes our deep appreciation for his efforts to bring an end to violence and chart a path toward peace and stability in Northern Ireland. I was very pleased to join Congressman Brian Higgins, State Assemblyman Mark Schroeder and Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy in welcoming Mr. Adams to Buffalo for this very important annual homage to our city’s and our nation’s Irish citizens.”
