The Buffalo Gus Macker is the largest in the country with just under 950 teams, over 3,700 players and 59 courts. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown will officially open the games at 8:00am Saturday morning June 21st. “The Gus Macker three-on-three basketball tournament is one of the biggest and best events in the summer in downtown Buffalo and I’m thrilled to again host the event in Niagara Square,” said Mayor Brown. “For 18 years, this event has always been a great chance for families to enjoy downtown Buffalo. As Mayor, I look forward to a safe, fun and family friendly weekend. Even if you don’t play basketball, the Gus Macker is a great event to attend.” Organized by the Police Athletic League of Buffalo and Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign, the Buffalo Macker features certified referees on every single court, security provided by uniformed Buffalo Police and medical services provided by Rural Metro Medical Services and AtheletiCare. In addition to great hoops action there’s plenty to see, do and eat throughout the venue which runs from Delaware and Court Street to Delaware and Carey. The 2008 Buffalo Gus Macker is presented by the Toyota Dealers of Western New York with support from the Buffalo News, 97 Rock, Channel 2 On Your Side, New Era Cap Co., Wegmans, Sahlens, Coca Cola Bottling Buffalo, Buffalo Place, Ad Pro Sports, City of Buffalo, Buffalo Police, Hart Hotels/Holiday Inn, Rural Metro Medical Services, AthletiCare and dozens of other local businesses.
