Timothy Franczyk to Erie County Court Judge. Ms. Calvo-Torres is a graduate of Binghamton University and the University at Buffalo Law School, where she earned her J.D. Her areas of practice include: personal injury, Ms. Calvo-Torres is extremely active in the Buffalo community. She has served as president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York, and is currently a Commissioner of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, President of the Hispanic Women’s League, Inc. and serves as Director of the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. “I am honored by Mayor Brown’s confidence in me and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the City Court,” said Ms. Calvo-Torres. “Freedom, peace, order and good government - the essentials of the society we treasure - depend on the faithful performance of judicial duty. Upholding the rule of law and public service has always been my vocation. I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Buffalo as the newest Buffalo City Court judge by administering justice according to the law with equality, fairness and compassion for all.” Ms. Calvo-Torres is the first Hispanic female Judge in the history of the City of Buffalo, and the first Hispanic judge since former Mayor Anthony Masiello appointed Paul Volcy in 2001. Betty Calvo-Torres is married to Charles Torres, a Senior Investigator with the New York State Police. They have a son, Christian. |
