Mayor Carries on Tradition Started as New York State Senator

BUFFALO—Mayor Byron Brown distributed 100 meals to Buffalo families today for the Thanksgiving Holiday, thanks to a generous donation from the Food Bank of Western New York.

“I started donating meals to local families as a State Senator, and I wanted to continue the tradition as Mayor,” said Mayor Brown. “We all know that there are many families in our community who cannot afford a Thanksgiving feast. Thanks to the help of area community centers and the Food Bank, we are able to give these families a turkey and the fixings for the traditional holiday dinner.”

Each family received a turkey and a bag containing cranberries, vegetables, stuffing and other thanksgiving staples. Each family was recommended to the Mayor’s office by area community centers, organizations and churches.

The Mayor also spend Wednesday delivering thanksgiving meals to the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in South Buffalo, Durham Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church on Michigan Avenue, and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church on Fernhill Avenue.

The Food Bank of Western New York is also partnering with the city on its food drive. Bins are located in the main lobby of City Hall for donations. The bins will remain in the lobby until the New Year’s holiday.
