BUFFALO, N.Y. (December 15, 2006) – Continuing their expansion in the Western New York market, The Summit Federal Credit Union has opened a branch in the City of Buffalo at 2290 Delaware Avenue in the Delaware Commons Plaza in North Buffalo.

The Summit’s President and CEO Mike Vadala, Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown and other community leaders participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the branch today.

“We’ve had the pleasure of meeting with Mayor Brown and Commissioner Tobe this year to discuss our investment in the City, serving the underserved & unbanked and our strong commitment to Youth Financial Literacy. We’re pleased that the Mayor is a longtime credit union member, a strong advocate for credit unions in general and keenly focused as we are on youth financial education,” stated Vadala.

Summit membership is open to anyone who lives, works, volunteers, worships or attends school in the City of Buffalo or Town of Amherst.

"I want to welcome The Summit Federal Credit Union to Buffalo and thank the Summit for demonstrating a strong commitment to serving the underserved and unbanked in our city," said Mayor Brown.

Vadala also announced a partnership with a Buffalo elementary school, the Dr. Blackman School #54 on Main Street.   The Summit will contribute $10 for every new member that joins at the new Delaware Hertel branch through January 31, 2007. The Summit will contribute up to $1,000 for financial literacy programs to teach children about money management.

"There is a tremendous amount of economic activity taking place in Buffalo, but The Summit has gone beyond just opening its doors by establishing such a strong link with School 54. By contributing to a financial literacy program that will help children learn about money management, The Summit has created a vital service to the City of Buffalo, its residents and our most precious resource, our children," stated Mayor Brown.

“The Summit believes in giving back to the communities that we do business in and feel
that we can make an impact in the schools helping kids learn about money at an early age,” Vadala concluded.

Additional initiatives with School 54 will include field trips to the branch, career days, African American Heritage Month activities and financial education classes taught by The Summit’s branch staff at the school, plus the credit union is leading the development of some broad-based educational initiatives with the newly formed Erie Niagara Cooperative Credit Unions.

The Summit Federal Credit Union is based in Rochester and also operates a branch on Transit Road in Clarence.

The Summit is a not-for-profit member-owned financial cooperative dedicated to improving members’ lives. The Summit provides a full range of financial products and services to nearly 51,000 active members with over $360 million in total assets.
